[Day 2 of the Tournament] Off-shots and comments from female athletes at the 17th World Kendo Championships

【大会2日目】女子選手のオフショット&コメント 第17回世界剣道選手権大会

From Friday, September 14th, 2018 to Sunday, September 16th, 2018, I went to cover the 17th World Kendo Championships, which was held at Namdong Gymnasium in Incheon, South Korea.

This time, instead of writing an article about the matches, I would like to tell you about the feelings and thoughts of the female foreign fencers as they approached the tournament!

Off-shots & comments

Mexico

Luna, De la loza, and Martinez

De La Loza : "I'm grateful to the organizers for organizing such a great match ."

Martinez: " I'm very happy to have the opportunity to play against players from various countries ."

Luna : "I've been participating since 2009. It seems like the level is getting higher every year and the players are getting younger. I look forward to participating every time."

Spain

Palau, Romeral

Palau: "Winning matches is important, but I also want to be a player who practices the best kendo possible."

They thanked us by saying, "Thank you for taking the photos!" We are grateful to these two cheerful people!

Norway

Linda : "I lost in the qualifying pool for the individual competition. I would like to continue to train in other countries as much as possible and improve my skills."

Korea

He gladly agreed to be photographed!

Japan

Mr. Komatsu and Mr. Seno

Senoo: "It was a very valuable experience. I would like to use this experience in my future kendo."

I got the impression that he was a swordsman with strong ideas, something you wouldn't expect from a high school student.

Although he was sadly defeated by Yamamoto in the semi-finals, there is no doubt that he will be a player who will carry Japan forward in the future. Komatsu, a Meiji University student, is also expected to play a key role in the next Paris tournament!

Mongolia

Galsantseren-san

Argentina

Armoa and Perez

Women's Team

In the women's team competition, Japan and South Korea faced off in the final.

After a fierce battle, Japan won 2-0. The Korean women's team closely matched the Japanese team with their fair and spirited kendo.

The match went down to the final, but Matsumoto Mizuki, who also won the individual match, brought victory to Japan with a stable performance.

An emotional scene after the match.

summary

We were able to introduce a side of foreign kendo practitioners that we don't usually get to meet. They all had a deep love for kendo and a deep understanding of Japanese culture. Their skills were also at a high level.

In every country, there are people who can speak Japanese. If you are Japanese and you are traveling abroad, why not try training abroad?
