BUSHIZO TV spoke with Takahiro Nabeyama, 8th dan and head coach of the Tsukuba University Kendo Club, about the topic of "guidance."

The Tsukuba University Kendo Club is home to top-class athletes such as Hoshiko Keita, who represented Japan at the World Championships, and Matsuzaki Kenshiro, who came in second at the All Japan Championships.

Professor Nabeyama says that his teaching has not been smooth from the start.

We were also able to hear about how they arrived at their current teaching policy after much reflection.

Professor Takahiro Nabeyama


Born in Fukuoka City, Fukuoka Prefecture. Winner of the Gyokuryu-ki tournament at Osaka PL Gakuen, and double crown at the Inter-High School Championships in both individual and team events. Winner of the All-Japan Student Team Championship twice while at Tsukuba University.

After graduating, he made it to the top eight in the All Japan Championships and competed in two World Championships. He is currently an associate professor at the University of Tsukuba Graduate School and the head coach of the University of Tsukuba Kendo Club. As head coach, he has led the team to four All Japan Championships victories. He is also involved in reconstruction support activities and promoting Kendo overseas.
