Introduction
This article has two themes.
First, there's the topic of " side jobs " and " multiple jobs ," which are currently garnering a lot of attention. A side job is a side business undertaken by someone who has a full-time job, such as working for a company, while a multiple job is having more than one full-time job. Tani is somewhere in between side jobs and multiple jobs. As someone who practices these two, we asked Tani about what he keeps in mind and the difficulties he's faced. This should be helpful for anyone considering taking on a side job or multiple jobs.
Also, why did you start your own business from home in the first place? There was a strong feeling behind it that is also connected to Tani's outlook on life. In this era of 100-year lifespans, we will have to at least some extent to find and face up to " what we really love ." How did Tani, who is one step away from finishing her child-rearing, find and face up to "what she loves"?

After getting permission from the company, she runs a beauty salon business on her days off.
Tani is currently working two jobs. She is currently running an esthetic salon mainly on weekends, with the possibility of opening a full-fledged business in mind.
2018 has been called the "first year of side jobs," and an increasing number of companies are lifting the ban on side jobs. However, there are many things to be mindful of, such as the need to file a tax return if your income exceeds a certain amount and making sure your side job does not interfere with your main job.
"Because I work on the business I want to do on the weekends, I try to work harder at my weekday jobs, " says Tani, a way of thinking that anyone who has a side job or multiple jobs should keep in mind.

* Aroma oils lined up at the entrance of my home
"My main business is facial beauty treatments, but I also teach aromatherapy. I think there are times when women suddenly have to leave their current home, such as when their husband is transferred or they have to care for their parents. I started working as a lecturer in the hopes of helping women in these situations obtain qualifications."

*These are aroma goods from "Kachitombo" (winning dragonflies) sold by Tani. Dragonflies are considered "winning insects" because they move in a straight line. You can relax by dripping aroma into the ceramic items and wearing them.
Yakult Cosmetics was the trigger for starting a business at home
Many people want to start a business or have a side job after retirement, but find it difficult to decide what to do . In Tani's case, it was his work at Yakult Cosmetics that prompted him to do so.
"After graduating from university, I wanted to continue practicing kendo, so I got a job at the logistics company Maruun. The company also had an active kendo club, and I was lucky enough to win the first tournament of what is now the Kanto Women's Corporate Kendo Tournament. However, my parents' health was not good, so we decided to return to Kagoshima. After that, I got married, returned to the Kanto region, and started working for Yakult Cosmetics."

*Yakult cosmetics are also available at Tani's beauty salon.
"At first, I was planning to work as a Yakult Lady. Yakult has a nursery school, so I chose to work in a place where other mothers would be working.
However, there happened to be a job opportunity with Yakult Cosmetics, and they invited me to try it. I accepted the offer because I thought it would give me the opportunity to work in the beauty industry, supporting women who want to stay beautiful forever. My main job entailed visiting the homes and businesses of Yakult drinkers, selling cosmetics and providing beauty treatments. After moving to Tokyo, I was also fortunate enough to have the opportunity to gain experience in development management.
At Yakult Cosmetics, she attended beauty school and also had many opportunities to speak directly to researchers at the cosmetics research institute. She has a deep understanding of cosmetics products. Based on the experience she gained during this time, she decided to open her own business.

I want someone to say, "You did a great job"
Employment, marriage, child-rearing, letting go... It's not uncommon for women's circumstances to change dramatically depending on their life stage. There's no one who they call a "role model," and many women find themselves lost in life, wondering if "this is really the right path for me." Even if they work hard and do their best on the path they've chosen, no one will say, "You did a great job."
Apparently, Tani was one of those women.
"I tried really, really hard in my own way (laughs). I didn't want people to think that I was slacking off on housework or childcare, or that my performance had dropped, so naturally, no matter how hard I tried, there were many times when no one would say that I'd worked hard.
However, I have been able to continue my beloved beauty treatment for so long thanks to my husband and the customers who continue to come to my salon. I am truly grateful.

I think we've all experienced this. No matter how hard you try, there are times when no one notices. When her son was still a baby, she was constantly in and out of the hospital, and the doctor told her to take a break because she was tired from raising him.
"That's why I opened my home salon to provide beauty treatments at reasonable prices to all women who work hard at housework, childcare, and work. I think there are some women who feel that going to a large salon in a fashionable town is too intimidating, but a home salon is closer to home, so I think people will feel comfortable coming."

Sometimes you work too hard and suddenly wonder, " Why am I working so hard? " At times like that, even if it's just for an hour, you want to pamper yourself for your hard work and regain your energy for tomorrow. Salon de Clair is a beauty salon for women like you.
"I want everyone to feel free to come by anytime, and I want to make this a bright place where everyone can gather," says Tani, her smile captivating and beautiful. Word of mouth has spread, and some customers even travel from far away to receive Tani's treatments.

By the way, I also had the opportunity to try out the beauty treatment during this interview. They opened my pores with a steamer, then carefully cleansed and massaged me. Even though I've been struggling with insomnia lately, I fell asleep before I knew it. My mind was cleared and I felt incredibly relaxed.

I received a skin care treatment using MT Metatron cosmetics, a high-end line of cosmetics, and my skin became brighter and more radiant. What's more, the price was very reasonable.
Most of the MT Metatron cosmetics sold at Tani's salon are from the brand MT Metatron. Founded by a pharmacist, it's cutting-edge beauty products that prioritize effectiveness. Tani says she's particularly confident in addressing the skin concerns of women her age.

This is the hard part about starting a business from home!
We also asked her about the difficulties of starting her own business from home. The most difficult thing was having to do everything by myself , including attracting customers. "My weekday job has set tasks, but with the beauty business I have to think about everything myself. I advertise in local magazines, create a website, and post on social media... it's really difficult because I have to do everything by trial and error."
It is also important to have the attitude of going out and learning. "In the beauty and teaching industries, if you don't keep up with the latest information, your business will go out of business. I try to keep my eyes on the world and keep my antenna up."
He uses his free time to concentrate and gather information in a short amount of time, and he also actively attends study sessions to attract customers.
Now, put all your effort into this moment
The most striking thing about talking with Tani-san was his words, " Put all your energy into this moment ." Whether in your personal life or at work, it's rare to be able to focus solely on " the present moment ." This is especially true with family. Perhaps it's because they're always there by your side that you end up becoming dependent on them and getting distracted by other things.

In June of this year, Tani's husband was hospitalized. She visited him every day, and the nurse told her, "It's rare to see a wife who comes to visit so often." Whether it's about her husband's hospitalization or supporting her son's club activities, Tani makes it a point to " do the best she can with what she can now ." "If I wanted to make excuses, I could make any number of them. My children are still young, or I'm busy at work... But I don't want to look back someday and regret it . I want to do my best, for my children, my husband, and my parents back in the countryside too."
She has been practicing kendo since she was in the third grade of elementary school, but after a break to raise her child, she resumed it when her son was in elementary school. She is currently a member of Daigijuku in Setagaya Ward, where she has attained the rank of Kyoshi 7th Dan and is active as an instructor.
"This year, I'm going on a trip to celebrate my 50th birthday with my high school classmates. I'm so happy to be able to meet up with friends I shared meals and sleeping with during my youth, even now that we've grown older. I'm glad I did kendo. When I was a student, it was always about winning and losing, but now at Daigijuku, I'm learning about character development from the teachers I respect. It's something I find comfort in ."
She is deeply grateful to both her son and her husband for giving her the opportunity to resume kendo. Ms. Tani wears three hats: mother, business owner, and swordsman. At first glance, they may seem to be doing completely different things, but at the root of it all is a shared value: "I want to create a bright and comfortable place for the people around me."
