Frequently asked questions about ordering from BUSHIZO

01

How to Order

Q

I'm not sure how to place an order.

A

From the product page, select your item and click "Add to Cart" to begin checkout. For a step-by-step walkthrough, please see the "How to Order" section in our Shopping Guide.

Q

If I order multiple items, will shipping be charged separately for each one?

A

No. Add all items to your cart and place a single order — you will only be charged one shipping fee. If you place separate orders, separate shipping fees will apply. Even if your order ships in multiple parcels, you will not be charged any additional fees after checkout.

Q

How do I create a member account?

A

You can register here. Alternatively, simply add a password to your shipping information during checkout and an account will be created automatically.

Q

I didn't receive a confirmation email after placing my order.

A

Confirmation emails are sent immediately after a successful order. If you haven't received one, possible reasons include: the order did not complete successfully, a typo in your email address, or your email provider's spam/block filters. Please contact us if you are unsure.

Q

Do you offer group or bulk purchase discounts?

A

Yes. We can prepare a custom quote at a discounted rate for group orders. Please contact us with the items and quantities you have in mind.

Q

Can items be gift-wrapped?

A

We will do our best to accommodate gift wrapping requests. Please note your preference in the "Other Requests" field at checkout.

Q

I'm nervous about buying online. What if something doesn't fit?

A

Please shop with confidence — returns and exchanges for sizing issues are accepted.

02

Payment Methods

Q

What payment methods do you accept?

A

We accept Credit Card and PayPal for international orders.

Q

Which credit cards are accepted?

A

We accept JCB, VISA, Mastercard, and American Express. All payments are processed as a single full payment — installment plans are not available.

Q

Is pay-later / deferred payment available?

A

We're sorry, but deferred payment is not currently supported.

03

Shipping Fees

Q

How much does shipping cost?

A

Shipping costs vary based on the weight of your order and your destination region. Add your items to the cart to see the exact shipping fee before confirming your order.

Q

If I buy multiple items, will I be charged separate shipping for each?

A

No — add all items to your cart and check out in a single order. Shipping is calculated per order, not per item. Even if your package ships in multiple parcels, you will not be billed extra. Note that separate orders will each incur their own shipping charge.

04

Delivery

Q

Can I specify a delivery date or time?

A

We're sorry, but scheduled delivery is not available for international orders.

Q

When will my order ship?

A

For in-stock items, we typically dispatch within approximately 2–3 weeks of receiving your order and payment confirmation. Please note that estimated delivery times on product pages are not guaranteed, and international shipments may take several weeks in total.

Q

Which courier will be used for my shipment?

A

We select the carrier based on the item(s) ordered and the destination country. Shipments are generally handled by DHL, UPS, or EMS.

Q

Can I track my order?

A

Yes. Once your order has shipped, we will send you a notification email with a tracking number so you can follow the delivery status.

05

Cancellations, Returns & Exchanges

Q

I placed an order by mistake. Can I cancel it?

A

Yes, in most cases cancellations are possible. However, if embroidery or custom work has already begun on your order, cancellation may not be possible at that stage.

Q

The size doesn't fit — can I exchange it?

A

Yes. (For protective equipment, we may offer size adjustment rather than a full exchange.) We will provide our return address — please send the item back at your own cost using prepaid shipping. We will cover the cost of shipping the replacement to you. Please note that items with name embroidery cannot be returned or exchanged.

Q

How do I request a return or exchange?

A

Please contact us within 7 days of receiving your order.

  • Our error or defective item: We will cover all shipping costs and arrange a replacement.
  • Customer preference (color change, different item, no longer needed, etc.): All return and re-shipping costs are the customer's responsibility.
In all cases, please contact us before sending anything back. Returns dispatched without prior notice (including cash-on-delivery) cannot be accepted.
Q

What items cannot be returned or exchanged?

A
  • Items with name engraving, embroidery, or made-to-order customization
  • Items returned more than 7 days after delivery
  • Items that have been used
  • Items damaged or soiled by the customer

About Kendo Equipment

Q

I'm new to kendo. What equipment do I need?

A

A full kendo setup includes: armor set (men, kote, do, tare), uniform (keikogi and hakama), shinai, tsuba and tsuba dome, shinai bag, equipment bag, and a men-tenugui. The exact requirements may vary by dojo or club — we recommend confirming with your instructor before purchasing.

Q

Is kendo equipment different for men and women?

A

Generally, there is no gender distinction for armor or keikogi. However, shinai weight regulations set by the All Japan Kendo Federation differ by age and gender, so please check the specifications carefully when purchasing a shinai.

Q

Can I remove specific items (eg, the do) from an armor set?

A

Sets are priced as a bundle, so changes to set contents are generally not available. Please contact us first if you have a specific request and we will do our best to help.

Q

Your prices seem lower than other shops. Are the products lower quality?

A

Not at all. Because we operate primarily as an online retailer, we can reduce overhead costs such as physical store management and in-store staff. Those savings are passed directly on to our customers. Product quality is not compromised.

Q

Why do similar-looking items have different prices?

A

While armor sets may look alike at first glance, differences in face grille construction, padding core materials, and manufacturing processes result in different price points.

Q

Can I customize certain specifications (lining, materials, spectacle accommodation, etc.)?

A

Yes, in many cases customization is possible. Please contact us for availability and a price estimate.

Q

How do I take my measurements for ordering?

A

For men (face mask) and kote (gloves), please follow our specified measurement method. For do (breastplate) and tare (hip guard), we determine the appropriate size based on gender, age, height, and weight information you provide.

Q

What does "5mm stitch," "3mm stitch," or "pitch stitch" mean?

A

The number (eg, 5mm or 3mm) refers to the interval between machine stitches on the futon padding. A shorter interval creates a firmer, denser feel; a longer interval produces a softer feel. "Pitch stitch" refers to a longer needle pitch than standard machine stitching, resulting in a softer overall finish.

Q

Will lightweight armor hurt more when struck?

A

Lightweight armor does provide slightly less impact absorption than standard weight armor. If you are concerned, we recommend using lightweight armor for competition rather than daily practice.

Q

Is there anything I should do right after receiving new armor?

A

Kendo armor is indigo-dyed, so some color transfer is normal at first. Wipe the inside of the men (face mask) with a well-wrung damp cloth to reduce dye transfer to your face. The inner ring of the men, the kote head, and the tare decorative flap tend to be stiff when new — working them with your hands helps them soften and conform more quickly.

Q

I have an unusual body shape (larger frame, bigger face or hands). Will standard sizes work for me?

A

We will assess based on the body measurements you provide. If a standard size is not suitable, we will prepare a custom-size quote for you.

Q

Can I have a name added to the do (breastplate)?

A

Yes, text can be added to the back of the do. Please contact us before purchasing with your desired text, color, and preferred placement for a quote.

Q

Can I specify the tsukagawa (grip wrap) length or weight?

A

Yes. Tsukagawa length can be specified in 0.5 cm increments. For weight, we will adjust the shinai as close to your specified weight as possible. Please note that the available range may vary by shinai model.

Q

My brand-new shinai cracked. Is it defective?

A

Please send us a photo of the damage along with a description of the circumstances. If we determine it to be a manufacturing defect, we will replace it free of charge.

Q

Can I have a name engraved on my shinai?

A

Yes. Please let us know your preferred engraving text at the time of ordering.

Q

Can I exchange a keikogi (training jacket) if the size doesn't fit?

A

Yes, exchanges are available. Please note that items with name embroidery cannot be exchanged.

Q

Should I account for shrinkage when ordering a keikogi or hakama?

A

For cotton garments, please allow approximately 1 cm of shrinkage. Polyester, jersey, or other synthetic fiber keikogi and tetron hakama do not require any shrinkage allowance.

Q

How should I wash my keikogi and hakama, and will the color bleed?

A
  • Synthetic (jersey / polyester / tetron): Minimal color bleed. Fold, place in a mesh laundry bag, and machine wash safely.
  • Cotton (indigo-dyed): Color bleeds and indigo dye is sensitive to alkaline detergents. Wash in plain water without detergent. Machine washing can cause deformation, fabric damage, and dye transfer to the drum — hand wash only, then hang-dry in the shade to prevent sun fading.
